Netflix confirmed cameras started rolling on the third installment in July 2026, ending years of “is this actually happening” speculation from fans.

Chris Hemsworth Is Officially Back as Tyler Rake
Hemsworth has closed his deal to return as black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake, the role that’s made Extraction one of Netflix’s biggest action franchises since the first film dropped in 2020. After production was delayed for years by Hemsworth’s schedule — including his role in Avengers: Doomsday — filming is finally underway.
Confirming the news, Hemsworth shared a short, excited caption: “E3 here we go!”
Filming Has Started in Australia
Production officially began in July 2026, shooting on the New South Wales South Coast and in Sydney. That location matters for longtime fans: Extraction 2 was originally supposed to film in Sydney too, before COVID-19 lockdowns forced the production to relocate to Prague and Vienna instead. Director Sam Hargrave and Hemsworth are finally getting the Australia-based shoot they’d been chasing since 2021. Filming is reportedly scheduled to run through October 2026.

Given filming is expected to wrap around October 2026, a 2027 release feels like the safe bet, following the roughly one-year post-production window the previous two films had — but that’s an estimate, not a confirmed date.
